Why is Continued Self-Improvement Important?

By Joanna Zuno 3/10/2022

If one wanted to grasp the concept of “Continuous Self-Improvement,” I would compare it to the old Chinese proverb: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” It is the opposite of taking big steps, but slowly challenging yourself to work on yourself daily. It goes by belief that you can achieve greater strides by going small. So let’s assess what it means to implement continuous self-improvement in our daily lives.

Continuous Self-Improvement Allows Us to Be Self-Aware

There are times we may have to face facts and evaluate the weight of our character and our personality. Does being who I am help me achieve my goals in the long term? Is there anything toxic I should get rid of? Even though it’s hard to ask ourselves these questions, ponder this, “if I could change something about myself, what could that be?” Self-improving yourself sets you on the path towards “the ideal you,” the one that you envision taking charge of or being at your “A-game.” Impress that version of you by being better, and you might end up being that “ideal you” in the place you want to be in the future.

Continuous Self-Improvement is Allowing Yourself to Make Long-Term Goals and Keep at Them

It's harder than ever to go home and grasp something all at once, whether acquiring skill sets or doing something leisurely. But the reality is that if we try to absorb something all at once, it will be overwhelming and the pursuit is abandoned. But the philosophy of Continuous Self-Improvement only encompasses 1% of that long-term goal; putting in the small minimum, because the belief is that doing in small distances is better inspiring action than giving up exhausted. So, if you feel that you want to be a master of that German you still retain from college, but don’t have the means to do an hour, then try fifteen minutes. If it has to be fifteen minutes every two days, then it’s fifteen minutes every two days. The same career-wise. If we want to take up a skill to improve ourselves, say information technologies, then instead of trying to master it all at once, try fitting it in rigorously daily in the small amounts of time you can squeeze in. Continuous Self-Improvement is about making progress with going through the flow of things as they are.

Continuous Self-Improvement Helps You Keep Track of Your Daily Goals and Your Overall Goals

Being continuous in your small term goals can have an impact on you as an individual and your overall goals. Do you feel more confident after going three months of doing German fifteen minutes a day? Do you feel more well-prepared in the tech industry than giving yourself that one hour a day to learn basic I.T.? Continuous Self-Improvement is about learning to live continuously by making self-improving habits a part of your daily life how they impacted you on a personal level. Keep track of your progress of knowledge and see how that impacted you mentally…do you feel mentall healthier? More confident for that career you were trying to pursue? Self-Improvement goes hand-in-hand with also those mental strides you want to achieve.
