Elements to Consider When Choosing Learning Content

When it comes to looking for that perfect read it’s important to find one that we can easily be acquainted with. It doesn’t mean it has to meet our whole personality but in terms of looking it’s important that a good read can match some general criteria.
Tip #1: Choose Something That Reflects Identity
It’s good to find books of different perspectives, but it’s also beneficial to find a book that’s relatable to you. Your identity. Especially in regards to self-help and self-reflection. Finding something that connects to your nationality, race, gender or spirituality will not make you feel like you’re on your own little island. Sometimes it's important to find books that relate to you because they will benefit you later on.
Tip #2: Choose Something That Answers Your Personal Questions
Have you ever wanted to gain deeper knowledge of something, but didn’t simply want to dive all the way in? When it comes to choosing content you want something substantial that can answer what you need in perspective. You simply do not have to delve into the entire subject or basis of it, instead, save that if you want to extend your curiosity further. It’s okay to soak your foot in a little before you go in.
Tip #3: Sometimes an Author’s Expertise Goes A Long Way
If you’re looking for a solid look into a topic or subject, you may want to consult the author's biography. Are you trying to learn more about Effective Leadership? Maybe the author with a M.A. in Effective Leadership from so-and-so university might be better than the other ten authors, or it could be the professional speaker with 30 years experience. Sometimes these are things to consider.
Tip #4: Look for the Best Personal Stories or Experiences
We’re all decisive when it comes to what motivates us, so do when relating to experiences. While looking through a sea of books consider who’s experiences might bring some relevance to yours. Maybe you can be inspired by the best of the best professionals or the most average starting off just like you, or both.
Tip #5: Look For Something That Helps With Personal Obstacles
Is there something that you are struggling with personally, emotionally, or spiritually? Is it hard to resolve the issue with your daily life? Why not use the time you use to read to also help with self-improvement? If there’s a book that you know that can personally benefit you then read it and tackle it! If you’re unsure if the book you’ve chosen will generally help you just skim the author’s introduction. The author will state their purpose or intention with also outlining the content. It will clue you in on what you need to know before you read. If it sounds like it can help you then it’s worth the time.
We hope these tips can help narrow your search when choosing content and eventually getting you to be a more avid reader!
